Ray Tompkins, Founder, gearbit

Ray is a Senior Network Specialist with over 30 years experience in troubleshooting, design, and implementation. His background includes 911 emergency consulting, and identifying the root cause of critical network problems. His knowledge of network protocols (LAN, VoIP, WAN and WLAN) and how they work within the enterprise networks are the key in providing customer service though knowledge transfer and education.

HP Compaq
Ray was a member of a technical team that resolved critical network issues for Compaq Computer Corporation’s world wide network. This included problems determination for major issues, hard to find and hard to fix problems. Compaq Computer Corporation’s world wide network consisted of over 150,000 nodes, 3,000 plus routers and server farms that housed thousand of servers. Networks of this magnitude require specific expertise in diagnosing and resolving problems. He was called on for technical support to resolve the hard to resolve problems.

Chase Bank
Ray brought his in depth experience to assist with troubleshooting, design, and implementation of LAN and WAN infrastructure. He established the corporate communication protocol for business continuity issues such as 911 emergency consulting, identifying the root cause of critical networks, application issues and client to server problems. As a leader of the IT team Ray was routinely called on to conduct detailed analysis using specialized industry tools.

Jay, Software Engineer, gearbit

Jay a software engineer is best known as the co-creator of Gearbox, it is a low cost network solution equipped with a packet engine that inspects every packet in the network stream, examining it for potential issues, and provides accurate detailed reports for network analysts and I/T professionals.  Moreover, throughout his career he has been creating products that explore new metaphors, sometimes with far-reaching consequences. A graduate of the University of Texas, he also keeps technical interest in PowellsPix, Facebook Site Governance, and Watermark Communications Mobile Studio.  His focus is on developing and optimizing networking features that take maximum advantage of the PC platform.

Lance  Brieden, Level II Network Analyst, gearbit

Lance Brieden is a Level II Network Analyst at Gearbit. He has extensive experience in troubleshooting complex multi-layered enterprise architectures, including unified networks that support voice, data, video and cloud network infrastructures. He has expertise in prescriptive troubleshooting environments such as virtual private networking and security and wireless domains.

Lance is skilled in the configuration, implementation and support of LAN/WAN management systems, including networking monitoring, performance and response time analysis.

He has more than 20 years of experience in multiple computer programming languages, including C and C++, Excel, Perl, PHP, HTML, Javascript, CSS, SQL Database, Bash scripting, AWK and SED.

Eric Seagren, Lead Security Analyst, gearbit

Eric is a Lead Security Analyst at Gearbit. He joined the company in March 2010.

Eric has sixteen years of experience in the computer industry, with eight years spent in the financial services industry working for a fortune 10 company.

While working in the financial services industry he led a global network security program, implementing the first firewalls, network security monitoring and security policies.

His diverse background in information technology includes coordinating with server administration, serving on disaster recovery teams, and working as a business continuity coordinator. His areas of expertise include network vulnerability assessment and risk management responsibilities. He has served the majority of his career as a security engineer and IT risk analyst. Eric is familiar with a wide range of technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, routers and switches, and log aggregation systems
